N2-Art Nouveau Reflections Stained Glass

Its main characteristics are floral shapes and lines, vivid colours inspired by nature, feminine silhouettes and characters. Glass, especially stained or decorative glass, was a remarkable example of Art Nouveau’s creativity.

Art Nouveau was one of the first modern styles of art and architecture. It was born at the end of the 19th century as a reaction to the rigidity of classical art. Its main characteristics are floral shapes and lines, vivid colours inspired by nature, feminine silhouettes and characters.

Glass, especially stained or decorative glass, was a remarkable example of Art Nouveau’s creativity. René Lalique, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Christopher Dresser were notorious glass-makers in the Art Nouveau era.

They made stained glass windows, jewellery, decorative vases, and lamps. Their influential designs are still commonly seen today, and many of their original works are highly collectable.
